A major reshuffle has been noticed on the list of athletes that would represent the country at next month’s Athens Olympics. Nigeriasports.com can report.
As against the decision reached that the first to sixth positions in the men and women’s 100 metres, 200m and 400m events would be selected at the end of the Mobil Track and Field Championship concluded Saturday at the Abuja National Stadium, the Federation Technical Committee has substituted one of the female athletes.
Nigeriasports.com gathered this morning in Abuja that in the women’s 100m, Uduak Eka of Akwa Ibom State who finished sixth in the event won by Endurance Ojokolo in 11.17 secs; has been dropped for the seventh placed Pauline Ibeagha, a foreign-based sprinter to be included on the list.
The women’s 100m was explosive as home-based Damilola Osayemi of ekiti State clinched the silver after crossing the finishing line in 11.36 seconds while Mercy Nku settled with the third position for the bronze.
“The Athens Olympics will settle everything. This is my first time ever to feature in Olympic Games and it would be fantastic.
“With a little more training, I will mount on the blocs with the global house hold names in the sprint, and I will come out victorious”, Endurance exploded in a chat with nigeriasports.com at the Abuja National Stadium.
