Locals outclasses legion of foreign-based at Mobil

Amidst a legion of foreign-based, Delta State’s Seyi Omojuwa outclassed all to grab the women’s 200 metres event at this year’s Mobil Track and Field Championship aimed at selecting the country’s team to next month’s Athens Olympics. Nigeriasports.com can reveal.

Omojuwa, who was a discovery from the recent National Sports Festival in Abuja in June, took off from the blocs like a real exposed professional, and maintained her speed till she crossed the finishing line in 23.97 seconds. Omolara Omoloye finished in the second position while Jane Dike of Imo State’s 24.58 secs earned her the third position.

“My main aim is to feature and win the World Junior Championship. I would like it if I am given the necessary exposure to excel. I know that with the necessary exposure and encouragement, I will soon challenge the global house hold names in the sprint”, the 18-year old told nigeriasports.com in a chat after the explosive event.

Similarly, in the men’s 100 metres, Rivers State Tamunosiki Atorudibo brushed aside foreign-based Deji Aliu to win the event in 10.08 secs. Aliu clocked 10.11 secs while Delta State’s Olu Fasuba crossed the finishing line in 11.19 for the bronze.

“The time I made here at the Mobil is the issue. What matters most is when we get to Athens. I know I will pick up and fast to join the last eight in the final. And once I’m in the last eight, anything can happen. I assure that I will clinch one of the medals”, Deji Aliu told nigeriasports.com afterwards.
