Robbers Attack Delta Force Players

Players and officials of Delta Force Volleyball Team of Asaba were attacked by a band of armed robbers last Thursday on their way to the 2nd edition Governor Abba Ibrahim Bukar Open Volleyball Championship taking place at Damaturu, Yobe State.

The Delta Force contingent who had travelled by road had a smooth ride until they get to mid way between Jos and Bauchi around 5a.m in the morning when they ran into the ambush laid by the deadly robbers who ordered everybody in the luxurious bus to come down for searching.

Mubo, coach/player of the team said that the robbers opened fire on the bus as they drove towards Damaturu.

"We just hard the sound of the gunshots and we were all afraid to the teeth, they told us to give up all that we have in our possession otherwise we would dead, " she stated.

According to the player who also doubles as the secretary of Delta State Volleyball Association, the wind screen of the luxurious bus got broken and everybody in the bus came out through the glass, saying"This made to sustain back injury as they marched during the stamped."

After the incident which saw so many of the players injured, the team was taken to a hospital at Damaturu where they were treated. The representatives of the State Government made sure they treated well before the commencement of the competion.

However, to continue with the game the Delta Force team had to send their coach, Terry Hakka back home to get more funds to prosecute the competition.

Meanwhile, the technical committee of Nigeria Volleyball Federation had granted the team a concension to start their matches later to give room for recovery.

 

Oyo Team Defeat Kano 3-0, Yobe trashed Bornu 3-2

 

Oyo State Volleyball team on Sunday in Damaturu, Yobe State defeated in one of the matches of the on going Governor Abba Bukar Ibrahim Open Volleyball Championship holding in the state capital.

The Oyo State team attended competitive game for the first time after a long lay-off showed that their return to the court was not a mere fluke, but rather a resolve to excel in the comity of volleyball playing states.

The all conquering Oyo team won the game 25-15,25-21 and 25-2-1 to carry the day, thereby sending jitters into the spines of their group A opponents.

In another match played on Monday morning, host team Yobe defeated their neighbours, Borno 3-2 to win what was considered a Kanuri war .
