Female League reviews: Delta take pole position

Teams claimed their players are on national duty
Delta Queens of Asaba seem set to continue from last season where they won the female league in grand style as they have maintained a 100% form in the two week old female football league.

Last Sunday at the Asaba Township Stadium, Delta Queens beat Oladimeji Tigress of Ilorin by 2-0.

Playing without most of their regulars who are tied down in the Falcons camp, the League Champions made short work of their opponents, scoring first in the 2nd minute through Florence Okwemu.

Seven minutes later, Akudo Iwuagwu got the second goal to send their Ilorin opponents back empty handed.

Daylight robbery

Cries of “we were robbed rent the air on Friday at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar after the match between home side, Pelican Stars and Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt.

The week 2 clash between these 2 bitter rivala was headed for a draw when in the 92nd minute the referee awarded a penalty to the home side.

“This is very wrong,” Rivers Angels Coach, Tunde Lawson told nigeriasports.com after the game.

“That did not look like a penalty to me. I think the referee must be on commission. He just succeeded in killing the spirit of my girls. Its too bad.”

The Rivers Angels team, clearly depleted by the fact that at least nine of their key players had not been released, held their own against an equally depleted Pelican Stars team who had eight of their players in the Falcons team.

The penalty was converted by Julie Ekwerike.

However, Team Manager of the Calabar based club, Ani- Oku Ita had a different opinion on the penalty.

“I thought it was a well deserved one, didn’t you?”

“Even the player who’s hand touched the ball broke down in tears since  she knew she knew she had jus committed an offence that would cause her team’s loss. I wouldn’t want any body to say we robbed Rivers Angels because we did not.”

FCT Queens blame club owners for woes

Team Manager of FCT Queens of Abuja say club owners are responsible for
the club’s poor start to the season that has seen them draw twice in as many games.

An enraged Nuhu Goroh told nigeriasports.com that the situation was really an unfortunate one as clubs have refused to release players who have already signed for his club.

“Apart from Rivers Angels who released Antonia Ikeke and Oluchi Ezeji to us long ago the other clubs are just dilly-dallying over the issue and as such we cannot raise a complete team for our games.”

“My only joy is that we are drawn by this weekend and I believe that by next week we will clear our players from Inneh Queens and Capital Queens”

FCT Queens laboured to a scoreless tie against Waheed Queens of Kaduna.

Other Results

In other games played over the weekend, Tin City Queens of Jos lost at home to Solid Babes of Nasarawa by 2-1, while Inneh Queens of Benin lost 0-1 to Sunshine Queens in Akure.

Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa picked a point on the road against Macbeth in Lagos to lead their group with four points from two matches.

Next weekends games look threatened as clubs say they may boycott the games unless the NFA releases their players in the national team or postpones the league until after the Olympics.
