Sunshine sacks Kafaru Alabi

The latest news coming from the camp of troubled Sunshine football club of Akure indicates that Chief Coach Kafaru Alabi may have been sacked, nigeriasports.com can exclusively report. The present development may not be unconnected to the scandalous 0-5 defeat the team suffered in the hands of Union Bank FC yesterday at the Onikan stadium in the ongoing 2004 Globacom premier league.

The defeat, the worst in the clubs history in recent times, could have been the last straw to break the camels back as the clubs poor strings of result has been giving the teams management some cause for concern and further investigation by nigeriasports.com indicate that Godfrey Esu might be taking over the vacant position of Chief Coach.

The erstwhile double winning coach Godfrey Esu has been unattached since the beginning of the season after quitting relegated Delta United last season and he was seen going into a meeting with the Sunshine officials until late into the night yesterday.

The sack is also coming on the heels of Coach Kafaru Alabi’s dropping as the handler of the Nigerian U-20 team coach by the NFA, prefering to give the job to Samson Siasia instead.

Meanwhile, it was jubilation time for supporters of Union Bank FC yesterday at the Onikan Stadium after recording an emphatic 5-0 drubbing of visiting side, Sunshine FC of Akure as the fans saw it as a consolation for losing out in the Lagos State FA Cup semi-finals to less fancied NITEL FC.

Azukah Okuboh became the hero of the evening with a hat trick while Franklyn and Tunde Olaniran both added their names on the score sheet.

Union Bank FC is still topping the league in the division 1B category and are on line for promotion into the premiership ranks at the end of the season.
