Comets carpets FIBA-Africa

Players of Nigeria representative in this year African Club Champions cup competition, Ebun Comets basketball club of Akure have expressed reservation about the way the continental body FIBA-Africa is handling the issue of date and venue of the qualifiers fixed for July this year.

The players told Nigeriasports.com in confidence that they are worried as the club management have continue to incurr huge finances in terms of players salaries among other expenses in order not to be caught unaware couple with the fact that the local league could not take off due to the inability of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF to secure sponsors which forced the federation league department to postponed the league by four weeks.

FIBA-Africa in its 2004 programme listed the qualifier for the club champions cup competition for July but has since failed to come up with dates and venue for the qualifying round with the main competition slated for October/November this year.

Comets qualified to represent Nigeria by virtue of winning the domestic league last year, the club management did promised to win the elusive title for Nigeria but available information point to the fact that the players might be match rusty as they are yet to be involve in any serious competition this year not even its planned weekly friendly games against some top teams in the Atlantic conference is yet to take off.
