Twelve set for Female league kick-off

Only twelve Clubsides have beaten the Nigeria Football Association’s May 19 deadline for registration ahead the Female League season which gets underway on Friday May 28. Nigeriasports.com can report.

‘Only 12 club sides were able to meet the deadline. The Fixtures have since been communicated to all the participating clubs. By Wednesday, the list of officiating officials would have been made ready and the referees accordingly notified” NFA Head of Female Football Department, Lizzy Onyenwenwa told nigeriasports.com.

The Clubs include Cup holders Delta Queens of Asaba, last season’s runners up Pelican Stars of Calabar, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, Solid Babes of Nasarawa and Inneh Queens of Benin. Others are FCT Queens of Abuja, Waheed Queens of Kaduna, Omidiran Babes of Oshogbo, Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa and Capital Queens of Uyo.

Pundits believe that with the traditional finalists, Pelican Stars and Delta Queens losing bulk of their first team players to national duties, an opening may have been created for the lesser known teams to stake a claim for Super Six tickets.

"It is an open competition. Any team that qualifies for the Super League can emerge winner. But I am very sure that this could be our year" said Deacon Nuhu Goro Shadalafiyah, Team Manager Of FCT Queens of Abuja.
