Pelican threatens pay cut

Management of Pelican Stars of Calabar have threatened to cut salaries of its national team players if the players fail to join them for Club duties this weekend. Nigeriasports.com can report.

The NFA has insisted that Female League hostilities will kick-off May 28 across the country and should that happen, Pelican Stars will be parading a depleted team as sixteen of their star players have been invited to the Super Falcons and Falconets camp.

Team Manager of Pelican Stars, Ani Oku Ita informed nigeriasports.com

“There’s no way the players can claim their full pay when they are not doing anything for the Club. Now that 16 of our best players have been invited to the national camps, how do they want us to prosecute the season? If the NFA says the players can be released to honour the league matches, who will foot the bill of the players’ transportation to and from the national camp?”

Pelican Stars players invited to the Super Falcons include Celestina Onyeka ,Yinka Kudaisi, Efioanwan Ekpo ,Christy George, Ajuma Ameh,Perpetua Nkwocha and  Blessing Igbojionu .

The Clubs Team Manager said the best option that would be taken against players in the National team will be to slash their salaries for the duration of time that the players will be away.

“There are no two ways about it. If the players are in the national camp, they will be paid allowances. They cannot eat from both ends.”
