Sunshine Stars drop Esther Okhai
Sunshine Queens' of Akure player last season, Esther Okhai, who was also at the World Cup, has been dropped for disciplinary reasons, nigeriasports.com can authoritatively reveal.
Chief Coach of the side, Micheal Fabunmi told nigeriasports.com that Esther had to go because of her antics which the club could no longer handle. “Esther Okhai is a good goalkeeper, but she is manner less. She is not ready to train. A player who was at the World Cup with the Falcons should be able to show good example to others but her case was different.” He said she refused to train with the rest of the side as soon as she returned from the World Cup and so she had to go. Michael Fabunmi however, insists the club will do much better than they did last season where they narrowly lost out on a Super Six slot. Fabumi told nigeriasports.com that the club is geared up for the season with more dedicated than quality players as against last season where indiscipline was the club’s bane. “Indiscipline ruined us last season and that is one of the reasons why Esther Okhai was dropped even after being in the World Cup.” The Coach told nigeriasports.com that he signed on 25 players and has cleared all new players. “Really we believe more in grassroots players since they are more disciplined than the so called big names.” The clubs’ wage bill has also increased as minimum salary has been increased from five thousand naira (about $35) to ten thousand naira (about $71) while the highest paid players in the club get about fourteen thousand naira (about $100) monthly. 0
