Samuel Peter remain unbeaten

Nigerian power puncher, Samuel Okon Peter has kept his unbeaten record intact but was forced to go the distance for only the second time in his career, Nigeriasports.com can report.

The Nigerian 2000 Olympian last week took a ten round unanimous decision over local Las Vegan Charles Shufford.

Shufford who was the more experienced boxer could not withstand the pressure of the Nigerian known as the ‘Nightmare’ as he was showcasing solid defensive maneuvers to avoid the big punch from the Akwa Ibom born fighter but offered up little in the way of his own offense. He made Peter miss, but did not make him pay.

In the fourth round Shufford came alive, ripping fast combination punches to the head of his stout Nigerian opponent but it was short lived. Peter always pressed forward, looking to land a big bomb that might knockout his quicker foe, which did not come also. Down the stretch of the bout, it was the 2000 Nigerian Olympian who continued to throw many more punches.

Shufford covered up, moving around the ring, avoiding as many punches as possible, but hardly ever sat down on his punches, in an attempt to catch Peter with a knockout shot. The fight went on to last the full duration and Peter kept his unbeaten record.

The judges scored the bout 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93 all for Peter. Peter now has an unblemished record of 19-0 (17kOs) while Shufford falls to 20-6 (9KOs).

The Nigerian said after the victory that his target is to get a short at any of the world titles.

He commended Shufford for mustering up the courage to fight him since all top fighters are scared to step in to the roped square with him.

The show tagged ‘Heavyweight Hero’s’ was promoted by Cedric Kushner Promotions.
