Female League Preview: Delta Queens

Precious Dede stayed back with Delta Queens
After winning the Super League last year at Umuahia, Delta State, who fielded solely Delta Queens players, went ahead to win the National Sports Festival justifying themselves as the best side the country presently.

Beefing up their current squad in which only one player left from last season, Maureen Eke from Bayelsa Queens, Bunmi Kayode and Lilian Cole joined from Inneh Queens joined to beef up the side.

Delta Queens will be gunning for their second ever league title and will be looking on the likes of Nkechi Egbe, Vera Okolo, Semola Akinlose to push forward their case

Any side that has Precious Dede and Lizzy Johnson, both Falcons' goalkeepers, Felicia Eze, Adeola Aminu, Bunmi Kayode, manning the defence as well as the likes of Vera Okolo, Nkechi Egbe and Semola Akinlose running things up front must surely be Championship favourite and Chief Coach of the side has not hidden his desire to win the league back to back.

Peter Dedevho, was brimming with confidence when he spoke with nigeriasports.com.

“This will be a good year for Delta Queens though I will not be quick to make any promises. The team I used at the sports festival is good enough to even qualify Delta Queens for the Super Six, but that is not to say we will not need other players like Nkechi Egbe, Lilian Cole, Bunmi Kayode, Precious Dede, Vera Okolo and others who were no more eligible to play the festival.

“By the time the league starts we would blend these young players with those older ones at the Falcons to get a winning combination.

Last year in the league, Delta Queens wacked Tin City Queens 9-0 while they won almost every other game home and away except their unfortunate home loss to FCT Queens of Abuja.

At the Super Six play offs they won 4 out of 5 games and dont look like they are about to forgo their league crown so soon.

The clubs' welfare package is also second to none as the players have been integrated under the civil service scheme of the state and do not lack salaries, allowances or bonuses.

Prolific attacker and scorer, Vera Okolo told nigeriasports.com that Delta is home to her and she is not willing to listen to offers from any club.

"No body can price me away from this club because there is nothing they will offer me I cannot get here
