Falcons' midfielder, Gift Otuwe, stayed back in Bayelsa

Despite a state government take over and release of at least twenty million naira (about $145,000) to the clubs’ management to start the new season, Bayelsa Queens Football Club of Yenagoa still found it difficult to hold on to her players ahead of the 2004 football season.

First to leave the club was attacking midfielder, Maureen Eke who pitched tent with Champions Delta Queens of Asaba, while Chinyere Afor, Augusta Egwim, Kelechi Gideon and Goalkeeper, Maria crossed over to neighbours, Rivers Angels.

However the club retained skipper Sabi Akudo who was on the verge of signing for Delta Queens and Gift Otuwe who was almost priced away by Rivers Angels.

They signed Cameroonian defensive midfielder, Lydienne Njolle from Inneh Queens, while Funsho Alake, Amarachi Ogbonna, Rosemary Okezie and Nkechi Agbor joined from FCT Queens of Abuja.

The club is rumoured to have registered for the annual Dana Cup in Denmark this year, and that may have been the bait they used to retain some of their old players as well as sign new ones.
