Methodist Boys retains Stanbic Cup

For the second year running Methodist Boys High School have proved superior to their Ansar-Ud-Deen counterparts in the final of the Howzat Six-a-Side Junior Cricket Tournament. The lads from MBHS who drew a bye to the second round in the preliminary stage of the two-day competition were more than a handfull for successive opponents enroute Sunday's final at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval in Lagos. Ansar-Ud-Deen won the toss to bat first and like a side desperate to avoid thunder striking for the second time in the same place, tried to make the most of deliveries made by the MBHS bowlers. But the A-U-D boys were only able to play 24 runs in 3 overs. The reply, however saw the Methodist Boys striving very hard to amass more runs and this they eventually succeeded in doing by earning the much needed 25 runs in 2.4 overs.Hence MBHS achieved a back to back final triumph against Ansar-Ud-Deen by a mere 1 run. The competition sponsored by Stanbic Bank attracted 14 schools from the Lagos environ, with some of the schools presenting B Teams to augment number of participating teams.
