Female League Preview: Pelican want title back![]() After losing their title in November, rumours went round that the club was on the verge of losing all their players with Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt as the biggest beneficiaries. Goalkeeper Nkiru Okwara, defenders Christy George, Cele Onyeka, Yinka Kudaisi, midfielders, Ajuma Ameh, Titi Mekuleyi, while attackers, Julie Ekwerike and Blessing Igbojionu were rumoured to be on their way to Port Harcourt. The Cross Rivers State Government was however on hand to release funds early to the club and all players stayed back. The clubs’ biggest boost will however be the return from a six month stint in the Chinese league and have put pen on paper for the former league Champions. “Life is good for Pelican Stars this time as we have been paid our sign on fees in full, something that has not happened here since 2001,” mercurial midfielder, Ajuma Ameh told nigeriasports.com. Ajuma said they are not trying to make predictions as to if they would be able to wrest the title from Delta Queens since it is still too young in the year to do that, but the players will just give their best. “The management expects a lot from us. You know they say much is expected from whom much is given so that is the situation in the club now. We will have a good season.” Ajuma told nigeriasports.com The club did not delve much in the transfer market as they lost only three of their last season squad- Lawrencia Nnadieto, Anong Zang and Jacinta Onuoha who all joined Rivers Angels. They only signed on Bella Francois from Inneh Queens, Linda Chukwuji from Ibom Unity Queens, Mary Wonah from Solid babes of Lafia and Eberechukwu Onyechefulam who also signed from Ibom Queens of Uyo. 0
