Confusion in Nigeria FASU Camp

Basketball action at Abuja 2004
LAGOS - Hope of Nigeria female basketball team doing well at the forthcoming Africa University Games, FASU hangs in the balance due to what has been regarded as imbalance in selection of players that will represent the country at the games slated for May 22 to 31 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi.

Nigeriasports.com exclusively gathered that there are contending partings as to the composition of the
Nigeria team, which gives preference to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and the University of
Lagos, Akoka.

The aggrieved parties frown at a situation whereby the coaches invited six players from the OAU; four from UNILAG leaving the remaining two slots to other Universities in a country that has over 40 federal and states Universities.

In a swift reaction, the coaches justified their action based available records of Nigerian Universities in the Nigeria University Games, NUGA andthe West Africa University Games, WAUG, which both institutions have dominated in the past.

The team which is expected to have commenced serious preparations ahead the first jump-ball of the games is said to be in disarray, while some players have had their invitation revoked others are at a lose as to who is in charge of proceeding.

Meanwhile the Bauchi State government is doing everything possible to host a hitch free event,
according to the state commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development Mallam Sani Toro that the state government more than ever to that ATBU host the rest of Africa University students successfully.

The state government nigeriasports.com also learnt has set aside a whopping N300 million naira in support of the games.
