Alhaji Toro Elated

Bauchi State commissioner for sports, Alhaji Sani Toro almost walked on his head when the his athletes won the men’s 10,000 metres race Monday evening to clinch the states only gold medal. So far, the festival has all states except Jigawa and Zamfara in attendance. Bauchi is occupying 21st position having won 1gold, 1silver, and 4 bronze.

Akwa Ibom, Kogi and Taraba have also joined in the medal haul thus swelling the number to 32 among the states showing skills in the on-going 14th National sports festival, Abuja 2004.

The states have grabbed a bronze each to occupy space on the medal table that has Edo leading with 29 gold, 27 silver and 25 bronze and hotly pursued by Delta state who has vowed to dethrone Edo state with 22 gold, 25 silver and 20 bronze medals. Lagos state is close on their heels in third place with 16 gold, 11 silver, and 12 bronze medals.

 Host Abuja is currently on the sixth position after winning 5 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze. Gombe and Yobe have both won two bronze medals each to occupy the 30th and 31st positions respectively on the medal table
