Olympics to celebrate humanity

ABUJA - President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge, has arranged an array of top celebrities and statesmen in the launch of it’s new global promotional campaign called “Celebrate Humanity. ” South Africa’s legendary elder statesman and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, U.S actor Christopher Reeve, Ghanaian United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and Canadian musician Avril Lavigne were personalities the IOC expects to spread this campaign aimed at highlighting the “Olympics values, dreams and inspiration, joy in effort, friendship and fair play, as told through emotive narratives” by these“Internationally recognized spokespeople.”

Nigeriasports.com reports Rogge’s emotional statement at the programme’s launching that “Celebrate Humanity engages our emotions and passions for the Olympic Games.” “We are delighted to have such a group of esteemed individuals assist in promoting the Olympic ideals. They bring a new dimension to the campaign and remind us the Games touch everyone of us regardless of our background and activity. This is what makes them universal,” Rogge said.

This year’s campaign comprises five television and three print executions available in numerous languages for the global broadcast and print media. The campaign will be aired by the IOC’s global
broadcast partners and other media outlets in the lead up to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and can be viewed on the International Olympic Committee’s website at www.olympic.org.
