We won't cheat to win..Ogba

Delta State Commissioner of Sports Chief Solomon Ogba, yesterday claimed the state would not cheat to win in the on-going 14th National Sports Festival in Abuja. Delta stands second behind Edo State by yesterday noon with 22 gold medals, (Edo had 29 gold medals) this Ogba says would change in a matter of time. “What you are seeing will change very soon.

We know our strong points, as well as theirs and from all indications, their strongest events have been concluded. Ours are just starting and by the time you get all the track and field results, with those from Swimming, Shooting, you would see clearly that we have no rivals here,” Ogba said.

On the issue of cheating and politicking by states to secure points, he said it was culture that should be checked.

“I can talk for myself that we are not going to cheat to win any medal here. We’re going win squarely at the competition venues and that’s all, but if there is any case of cheating by any other state, then we would not rest until we sorted out that case judiciously,” the commissioner said.

“Politics is a natural sport, but at the festival like this, it is the competition that matters, not the politics. Some may want to use sports to score political points, but at the end, it is not the politicking that wins. It is the actual competition that wins the medals and that is exactly what we’re set out to do in this festival.”

Ogba who showed nigeriasports.com a well articulated document, clearly analysing the state’s strong points, weaknesses, medals prospects and otherwise, said “at the end of proceedings here, Delta state would have won the festival with no less than 130 gold medals.”
