Ahmed and Seyi win 100m gold

Ahmed Kasumu breasted the tape with a time of 10.43seconds followed by Uzodimma Alozie of Abia state who finished at 10.52seconds and Samuel Francis of FCT 10.57 seconds in the 100m men Seyi Omojuwa of Delta State whose personal best was 10.34 seconds finished first in the with a time of 11.60 seconds followed by Areguame Kate of Kwara State finished at 11.70 seconds and Jane Dike of Imo State came third with a time of 11.78 seconds.

 Ahmed Kasumu of Ogun and Seyi Omojuwa of Delta states today emerged the fastest man and woman in the finals of the 100m event at the on going 14th National Sports Festival taking place at the national sports stadium Abuja.

Speaking to nigeriasports.com after the winning the keenly contested race, Ahmed Kasumu  said he won the race simply because he applied the three D’s of dedication, discipline and determination. According to the Ogun State University undergraduate his next target is the world university games later in the year. For Seyi, “God answered my prayer, so I dedicate the gold to God”.

A new festival record was set in the men 10,000m event at the 14th National sports festival by Wilson Eku of Bauchi state who braced the tape at 31.10.25 seconds to set a new festival record smashing the previous festival record set by Yohanna Waziri in 1988 in Port-Harcourt.
In other field and track events concluded at the mainbowl of the National Stadium, Abuja, Chet Iyke of Delta picked the gold in Javelin with a first time throw of 61.84, while Kingsley Igbinedion of Edo State clinched the Silver with a throw of 58.33m while Chika Omadi of Kano State took the bronze with a throw of 55.27m.

In the women shot put event Rivers State dusted her competitors with a throw of 12.46m to win the gold, Stella Okpokwu of Enugu took the silver with a throw of 12.05m while Benedicta of Itua of Akwa Ibom got the bronze.
