Edo jolted by disqualification

Captain of Edo state volleyball side, Johnson Oloyede has expressed sadness over their disqualification at the on going national sports festival.

Speaking with Nigeriasports.com, Oloyede stressed that Edo state made the trip to Abuja after wining a protest against Bayelsa State for fielding ineligible players during their preliminary in Asaba last month.

According to Oloyede the team arrived Abuja without any formal letter to inform them of the terrible decision.

“We came here to play because we won the protest against Bayelsa after the preliminary game. On getting here we saw the same Bayelsa team. But on our greatest surprise the officials now took another decision against us and awarded Bayelsa the participating right” he explained.

Meanwhile, the dejected Edo captain hinted that the decision had robbed he and his team mates the opportunity of defending the gold they won at home in the 13th National sports festival.

“We came here to defend the Volleyball title we won at home in year 2000. We are still the best team and our superiority still reign supreme” he told Nigeriasports.com
