Semi-finalists emerge in cricket
Defending champions Ogun State proved they are still the team to beat at this level when they outclassed the Lagos side by 5 wickets to lead three others, including Lagos into tomorrow's semi-finals of the cricket competition at the National Sports Festival. In one of the last round of Pool A played Monday at the Garki Area 3 mini stadium, the lads from Ogun turned on the heat on their Lagos counterparts in a fairly one-sided affair.
Ogun won the toss to bat first and utilised the opportunity to the maximum as they played 102 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.Lagos, in their reply, played 72 runs for 9 wickets also in 20 overs.
In Tuesday's semi-finals Ogun will be up against history seeking Rivers State, while Lagos face an herculean task in their fixture against Edo State.
Eight states in all turned up for the cricket competition at the Abuja festival and these are Delta,Edo,Imo,Kaduna, Lagos, Ogun,Oyo and Rivers.
"We've had a very good competition. In the opening game,Kaduna and Edo were very fantastic,a photo finish.Kaduna had the upper hand but Edo played through the last ball, last over, last batsman. That was a good beginning,it flagged off the excitement,"said Olisa Egwuatu,a technical official of the Nigeria Cricket Association.
