Kaduna pick first gold in athletics

Kaduna State, Monday,became the first State to register their presence on the honours roll call for track and field at the athletics competition of the 14th National Sports Festival in Abuja, Nigeriasports.com can exclusively report.

The athletics programme of the festival was billed to commence yesterday, but organisers had to shift it by a day due to logistic problems.

Competition actually began on the track where Kaduna's Nancy Mathew ran a spectacular race to beat others to the Gold medal in the Women's 5,000 metres event.

Nenpinwa Alex of Plateau State won the silver while Ladi Musa also of Plateau State picked the bronze medal.

Abia State won the second Gold in track and field as Achilonu Paul hurled furthest to emerged gold medallist in the Men's shotput event.

Silver went to Yakubu Adams of Kano State and Nex Young of Edo had to be contended with the bronze.

The last event that was decided in athletics during the morning session was Women's javelin where gold went to Adiza Musa of Adamawa, Ethel Obinadide of Enugu won the silver and bronze went to Keke Immaculate of Oyo State.
