LOC call for change in hosting

Alimi Musa
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) secretary, Mohammed Alimi Musa has proposed a four-year period for the sports festival instead of the biannual period that is currently in place.

Speaking with Nigeriasports.com, Musa disclosed that the LOC which was inaugurated two months ago revealed that they earlier proposed the four year system to the Sports ministry.

“We seek for understanding from the ministry and appealed for the festival to be hosted every four years which they turned down. They only said it would not be possible because the biannual position was fixed by the national supreme council of sports in the early 80s,” he said.

Alimi noted that such an important change will have a positive effect on the games in the future.

“If the ministry would extend this festival hosting issue it would create many chances for the development of sports and athletes in the country”.

Citing the basic financial difficulties that nearly crippled this year’s event, Alimi hope there will be a change.

“We couldn’t sort out so many things that needed attention. We got approval of finance for the games pretty late. The game was nearly called off but such things would not have been if there’s a long term project for the games” he concluded.
