Delta,Kano set the pace
Delta and Kano remain the only teams with unblemished records in the women and men's basketball event of the 14th National Sports Festival holding at the Abuja National Stadium Complex. Delta who play in Pool B of the women category along with Edo,Borno,Imo,Kaduna and Lagos have won all three matches so far played in the round-robin series,ditto the men from Kano who have stood shoulder high above Cross Rivers,Kwara,Oyo,Lagos and Plateau in Pool B of the male division.
The ladies from Asaba have beaten Borno 88-18;Imo 73-27;and Lagos 57-51points to place themselves in good stead for one of the two semi-final tickets in Pool B.Lagos and Kaduna are presently joint second in this pool having won two and lost one matches respectively.Edo have won the only game played by them so far while Borno are the weeping team of the pool.
Bauchi and their FCT Counterparts currently dictate the pace in Pool A with two victories from two matches each.Plateau have one win and same number of loss to their credit while Oyo were yet to sniff a victory.
The enterprising Kano men defeated Oyo 68-50;Plateau 60-56;and Cross Rivers 68-53.Lagos have also won two games just as the Cross Rivers side who though had dropped one game.It has been one win and two losses for Oyo while Kwara have lost all three on the trot.
Men's Pool A has Gombe, FCT and Kaduna all recording two victories each but Gombe and Kaduna had since dropped a match.Bauchi and Delta have a win apiece in this pool with the former losing once.However the Imo State team were yet to win a game.
Edo and Delta were slugging it out in Poool B of the women's category at the time of filing this report.But the last round of matches in the preliminaries of the basketball event comes up tomorrow.
