FCT qualifies for football quarter finals

Isioma Odighili scored FCT's first goal
The female football team of the Federal Capital Territory, on Sunday morning qualified for the quarter final of their event following a comprehensive 3-0 thrashing of Kaduna State.

The FCT girls, cheered on by a large crowd of noisy supporters drew first blood as early as the fifth minute through Isioma Odighili who capitalized on horrendous defending by the Kaduna girls for goal number one.

Less than ten minutes later, Lamine Peters saw an opening in the Kaduna defence and sent in a high ball from more than forty yards which sailed in for goal number two.

In the second half, Mary Nwanonyiri capitalized on a defensive error to bring scores to 3-0.

The FCT girls had earlier beaten Enugu State 3-1 and will now meet the second placed team in the group that consists of Delta, Edo and Adamawa States.

Kwara falter against Ebonyi

Kwara state female team could not keep up the tempo of their earlier 3-0 win over Plateau state.

After picking an early one nil lead which lasted until half time, Kwara state conceded an equalizer to their Ebonyi opponents who went 3-1 up with ten minutes to go, until a spirited effort by the Kwara girls saw them pull one back just before full time.

Kwara State will now hope Ebonyi continues their superb form and beat Plateau on Monday if they are to have any hope of qualifying for the quarter finals.

After the game, mercurial Kwara state midfield generalissimo, Lilian Ihuoma told nigeriasports.com that they did their best but it was just unfortunate they lost that way.

“After I scored that first goal, we kind of relaxed thinking it was all over, but when the Ebonyi girls started to attack, we could not contain their forays any more.”

“Its unfortunate we lost, we just hope Ebonyi wins on Monday against Plateau so we have a chance to live again.”

Delta shows good form

Delta State female football team showed good form on Sunday morning at the Aguiyi Ironsi pitch where they completely annihilated Adamawa state 4-0.

Former U-19 international, Adeola Aminu scored first for Delta and Akudo Iwuagwu also got a brace to put things out of the reach of Adamawa.

Chizoba Oparaocha completed the routing to pave the way for an epic clash between Delta and Edo on Monday.

Both Edo and Delta have three points and four goals aggregate and will be hoping to win in order to avoid FCT in the quarter finals.
