Calm returns to volleyball center

The main organizing committee of the on going 14th national sports festival has finaly put an end to the confusion in the volley ball event where protests led to stalemated matches.

The body on Saturday declared Bayelsa the rightful representatives of the zone 2 for volleyball and the decision sent the Edo team packing.

Having won the protest, Bayelsa state team on Sunday morning confronted Ondo winning 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.

After the game, Chief coach of the side, Braah Bitee tod Nigeriasports.com that the last four days had been traumatic for his side.

“To be frank with you, for the last four days we have been in psychological trauma. We are determined and our goal is to win and we hope we will.”

At the zonal meet in Asaba, Bayelsa defeated Edo 3-0 to qualify but Edo prostested against two Bayelsa State players, Yemi Mayuku and Isaac Geofrey on dual registration and the technical committee of the zone awarded the match to Edo.

Bayelsa then put up an appeal to the Organising Committee of the Sports Festival and it was re-awarded to them, Edo once again appealed against that decision to the Nigerian Volley ball Federation NVBF.

At this point the case was referred to the main organizing committee who re-awarded the match again to Bayelsa based on insufficient evidence from Edo.
