Nwokedi,others return to court

Men's singles goldmedal favourite Alex Nwokedi will be the cynosure of all eyes as competion resumes in the tennis event of the ongoing 14th National Sports Festival in Abuja,the Nigerian capital. Nwokedi who is representing Anambra State at the festival drew a bye into the second round which serves off Sunday on the courts at the National Stadium Complex.He is billed to slug it out with Elo Omozopia of Edo State. Number three seed Taiwo Owolabi of Oyo State confronts Nassarawa's Mohammed Dalhatu,while Muktoka Bako of Kano sizes up Tyokaa Tyokase of Benue State in some of the day's other prominent fixtures. Secretary General of the Nigeria Tennis Federation[NTF] Segun Oguntade told nigeriasports.com that competition in tennis had been delayed by preparations ahead of Saturday's opening ceremony by then organisers. Indeed first round matches in the ladies singles event had yet to be concluded as at Saturday evening. A total of 128 players had registered to compete in the men's singles of the tennis event with states featuring a minimum of two and maximum of four participants.29 states in all are parading competitors in the tennis competition of Abuja 2004 sports festival.
