Two swimming events postponed

Following protest by Edo state over the eligibility of two athletes representing Delta and Ondo state respectively the 50 metres butterfly and the 200 metres freestyle for men has been shelved for now pending when the controversy over the two swimmers is resolved.

The two swimmers in question includes Otikpo kpiliboh representing Ondo state and Sunday Ahejo of Delta State.

The swimmers are alleged to have participated in three previous national sports festival and have also represented the country in two international competitions a situation which effectively rule them out of the National Sports Festival which is meant for discovering new talents.

Unable to resolve the issue, the swimming officials have referred the case to Dr Tijani Yusuf, the head of the festival's technical committee.

Meanwhile, other events went as scheduled and the results are as follows:

200 Metres Freestyle (Women)

Gold = Uche Monu (Lagos)= 2.25:87 seconds
Silver=Meme James (Edo)= 2.27:09 seconds
Bronze=Blessing Focados (Delta)= 2.30:17 seconds

400 Metres Backstroke (Women)

Gold = Uche Monu(Lagos)= 1.17:93 seconds
Silver=Meme James(Edo)= 1.19:54 seconds
Bronze Gloria Uma
r (Bauchi= 1.20:92 seconds

100 Metres Backstroke(Men)
Gold = Seyi Williams(Lagos)= 1.07:20 seconds
Silver=Samson OPILAKPO(Delta)= 1.08:50 seconds
Bronze=Yellow Yelyah(Ondo)= 1.10:94 seconds
