Wrestlers to rumble in 13-cities

The first Presidential World Wrestling Championships scheduled to begin on May 26, 2004 will be staged in 13 cities of the country, representing 13 states of the Federation.

The cities include: Benin, Warri, Aba, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Makurdi, Jos, Maiduguri, Kano, Kaduna and FCT Abuja.

“The idea behind the plan is to let as many Nigerian youth as possible have the opportunity of witnessing the sporting spectacle, never seen in the huge scale,” Rev. Power Eke Uti, CEO of PWWC said.

He told Nigeriasports.com that this year’s event would be in honour of president Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku Abubakar for their exemplary leadership.

According to Power Uti, the event would be aimed essentially, at promoting peace in the country particularly, within the troubled Niger/Delta area of the country, where youth restiveness had made exploitation of the “Black Gold” a difficult job.

There is the quest for the control of crude oil within the area, making foreigner earner a source of problem to the country.

“Today crude oil is the main source of foreign exchange for the country,’’ he said adding, “We intend to send a strong message of peace to the youth within the region that sports could be a veritable hope.”

Power Uti said that there would be a fine selection of top wrestlers, many of whom had been on international Television Stations.

“Overall, my World Championship belt will be at stake,” he said.
