Eto’o wins Caf award

Okocha will try again in 2004
Hopes of Austin Okocha picking up the CAF African Footballer of the Year 2003 went up in smokes in Yaoundé but Enyimba, Kadiri Ikhana and Inter Milan whiz kid Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins were winners on the night.

Samuel Eto’o Fils inspirational play for the indomitable lions of Cameroon gave him the award ahead of Austin Okocha’s brilliant run with Bolton Wanderers last season.

"Eto"

It was obvious that the Cameroonian stood tall amongst the three contenders which include Didier Drogba of Marseille and Ivory Coast and Okocha.

In the Youth Player of the year category, Abib Kolo Toure (Ivory Coast) Steven Pienaar (South Africa) could not stop Obafemi Martins splendid performance for Inter Milan in the 2003 Uefa Champions league.

"akin"

Coach Kadiri Ikhana’s feat with Enyimba in the Caf Champions league eclipsed that of his fellow contenders, Ratimir Djukovic (Rwanda) and Winfried Schafer (Cameroon) and the former international was named as the coach of the year.

Meanwhile, Okocha was not the only Nigerian loser on the night, as Super Eagles and Enyimba goal keeper; Vincent Enyeama lost out on the Goal Keeper of the year award to Idriss Kameni of Cameroon. The Cameroonian brilliance at the Confederations cup subdues Enyeama and Hecham Mezair (USMA) on the continental front.

Endurance Idahor of Julius Berger also lost out in the Goal of the year category.

Wat the hell is going on??????? CAF is ridiculous, if only okocha is a camerounian just maybe things would ve been different. Despite all he is still our man & to me he is the African footballer of the year.

As far as am concerned Eto'o really deserve the award as he was the most outsatnding African plyer last year because he won the spanish super cup as well as the super cup. Okocha is also a strong contender though, but Eto'o have an edge over Okocha.

We saw the handwriting on the wall a very long time ago. Is it not ridiculous that CAF couldn't summon enough courage to stage the Awards untill the last day in Apri 2004?! And when they eventually did, it could only be in Cameroun (!) I used to think Nigerians are the smartest species ... To JayJay and his supporters accross the globe , I say take heart... Tomorrow (2004) is another day.
