Enyimba beg for fan support against Diaraaf

Ahead of Sunday’s CAF Champions league first round first leg clash against Diaraaf of Senegal in Aba, Enyimba football club of Aba are still calling on their fans to turn out in droves to support the clubs’ cause.

Chairman of the Club, Felix Anyansi Agwu told nigeriasports.com that the time for fans of the club to show their love for Enyimba is now.

Anyansi Agwu said the Senegalese team have already arrived with a forty one man contingent including one person who has been in Aba for at least ten days spying on the team.

“A lot of people are judging Enyimba by their form in the league but that is all wrong. The league is totally a different ball game from what obtains in Africa. Enyimba will win and win well on Sunday but we need the fans to rally round the team for maximum support.”

“We are committed to success. We cannot let the nation down. A lot of people are looking up to us as defending champions and the least we can do is defend the cup we won last season.”

Urukalo calls for patience

Chief Coach of the side, Miroslav Urukalo advised football fans in Nigeria to forget the past and look ahead to the future.

According to him, there was really no need comparing Enyimba’s performance so far this season to that of the 2003 football season.

“I never hear in Europe where fans of Real Madrid or Arsenal talk about their performance last year. Last year is gone and every body must look forward to this year.”

Urukalo says the fans can only enjoy sweet victory if they can be patient with the side.

He says he would not want anybody to rush Enyimba or judge the team by last season’s performance.

“You have to understand that the boys are in a difficult position coming into Sunday’s match. This would be the most difficult match they would play this season. They have never been champions of Africa before and really may not know how to act and comport themselves going into the game.”

“That is why you hear about Enyimba winning the Champions league and half of the players in the side either want to change clubs or just stop training.”

Urukalo assured that Enyimba will retain the Globacom Premier League as well as do very well in the Champions league this season.

Meanwhile, tickets for the match have already been pegged at five hundred naira (about $3.5) for reserved and VIP while popular side would pay three hundred naira (about $2.1).

As usual fans have been urged to desist from coming the stadium with bottled and sachet water and they have been asked to maintain a high level of discipline in the course of the game.
