The hosting right was awarded to the federation because of the successful hosting of the last All Africa Games held last year in the same city Abuja.
Speaking with nigeriasports.com at the national stadium yesterday, secretary general of the federation Toyin Aluko stated that every thing is in place to make they have a successful hosting of the games.
According to her, the ACCC championship would features the league champions in each country across the continent and is designed to help develop, foster unity and encourage sportsmanly competition amongst competing nations and further enhance the popularity of the game on the continent.
She also disclosed that Nigeria has made mark on the competition through the exploit of team like Bendel Flickers (Silver medallist in 1983), Yobe Desert Warrior (Silver Medallist in 1987), and Union Bank (Bronze medallist in 1988)
“Hockey is a fast growing sports that is gaining popularity in Nigeria. This highly entertaining sport enjoyed a major boost recently when a state of the art synthetic turf was constructed in Abuja for the last All Africa Games,” she said.
She also confirmed that the Africa Cup Club Championship is a competition that is used to determine the best hockey Club in Africa annually.
Meanwhile teams are expected to be arriving Nigeria on the April 22 while the opening ceremony takes off on the 24th. |
