Izuagha in Vietnam

Journey man and former skipper of the National U-17, Ejike Emmanuel Izuagha has pitched tent with a Vietnamese club ‘Dongtam Long AN FC’ in the V-league.

According to the player who once played for Lodz (Poland) Eintract Frankfurt, Chemnitzer and SV Wehein, all in Germany his decision to play in Asia stemmed from his plans to keep his fitness.

“I know a whole lot of people will scream hearing am now playing in Vietnam but what do you do till June when there’s no other option before the transfer window in the summer in Europe” he said.

National team player
Ejike Izuagha who was capped at all the junior levels (U-17, U-20 and U-23) and the Super Eagles at a point stressed that the Vietnam league attracts so many crowds week in week out.

“I’m really impressed with their football level at this place because its really fast football and the fact a large crowd turn up to watch their league games here is really unbelievable” says the Mgbidi born defender.

The Nigerian hopes to see through his three months deal and make a quick return to Europe.

“I signed a three month contract on April 2 and it will end in June and I’ll be returning to Europe where I belong” the player who has spent six years in Germany added.

Flashback
The player who was among the three players banned by the Nigeria Football Association in wake of their loss to Cameroon at the soccer finals of the 8th All Africa games in Abuja last October says no hard feelings about life after all.

“The suspension and reaction of the NFA affected my game in all spheres and it’s the foundation of predicament in Germany” he recalls.

“The FA sent a fax to my club that I was suspended for holding the nation to ransom over four thousand dollars, and the fax message got to ‘kickers’ the biggest Sports paper in Germany and my club were highly disappointed thus denting my good six-years image in Germany

“I think it was one tough lesson in life to learn, same Nigeria that I went to Japan to represent at a friendly two days after the death of my mother could accuse me of indiscipline and bring to abrupt end my soccer career. I thank God am alive and kicking but God surely has a way of fighting for people like me” he concluded.
