South Africa rules out sabotage

Assistant Coach of South Africa’s female National team, the Banyana Banyana, Boebie Williams says the fate that befell twelve of his players and two officials could not in anyway have been sabotage from the Nigerian side.

Williams told nigeriasports.com minutes after the postponement of the game was announced at the Stadium that in his entire coaching career he had never seen such a thing but the belief in their camp is simply that it was one of those things that could happen.

“The food in the Hotel is good and we really don’t think it is the food, but I remember most of the girls had orange juice on Thursday night and it could just be that is what caused it, but we can’t confirm any thing until we hear from the Doctors.”

The Coach said three of his players, including two goalkeepers were worse hit and had been hospitalized since Friday morning while the rest were simply lying in their rooms and taking treatment.

“We are just giving them fluids to sort of get their stomachs cleaned out.”

Game will go on

Despite the set back, Head of the South African delegation, Fran Hilton-Smith told nigeriasports.com that the game would go on as rescheduled on Sunday.

“We are hopeful that they will be fit enough to play on Sunday and the doctors are really doing their best, but if we have to play on Sunday then we have to. We can only hope for the best.”
