Eguma not carried away by good start

Chief Coach of Gabros Football Club of Nnewi, Stanley Eguma has told nigeriasports.com that he will not drift into dream land because of the superb start of his club in the 2004 Globacom Premier League.

Coach Stanley Eguma who must surely be pinching himself now, said the league is still young and his boys must keep their heads or else they will come crashing down.

“The league is just starting. I have a young side and they have so far lived up to my expectations. The win against Dolphins at Rojenny was a good one having come against my old side, and in Benin against Insurance it was a nice feeling to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2  against the home side, but we are yet to hit our peak so we have to keep working”

after the week three 2-0 win over Plateau United which shot Gabros to the top of the league with 7 points, Eguma attributed it to his grass roots mentality which he claims has never failed him.

“I do not believe in big names because I have never been a big name myself. I also get young players who are ready to die just to make a name for themselves  and they do the job for me.”

He reiterated that he was not sacked from Dolphins FC at the end of last season but simply refused to rejoin the team after the incidents that occurred there at the close of the 2003 season.

“You know the Club’s Technical crew was dissolved and when I was recalled to be an assistant Coach, I rejected the offer because I saw it as travesty to be assistant Coach in a Club I won the FA Cup for as Chief Coach.”

“When we played Dolphins in Week 1, there was no grudge in my heart. I just approached the match like any other one we would play in the Premier League.
I am in Onitsha to prove a point and God willing, at the end of the season, that point will be proved.”

Eguma says the club has no title ambitions but would want to expose the boys for a bigger challenge next season.
