Why Aghahowa quits the national team![]() The embattled striker stressed that the nonchalant attitude of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) is the major reason for his drastic decision. “I think I’ve had enough playing for Nigeria and will only take with me the bitter memories of my time with the team and not the good moments because it is better to be honest with yourself” the former Insurance of Benin striker revealed. Speaking further, Aghahowa stressed that the highly celebrated incidents of flying tickets ahead of the nation’s cup in Tunisia only fuelled his wrangling with the Nigerian soccer authorities. “I expected the NFA to treat me like a human and not an object” he fumed “I gave them my travelling passport earlier but they called me from nowhere and asked me to started running to the airport on the day of the trip, without any prior notice” “It’s a bad thing what they did and I think it only added to my anger because I was contemplating my next plans before that happened’ the former Esperance of Tunisia striker explained. Speaking with rage Aghahowa carpet the NFA lackadaisical attitude towards developing the game and building a friendly relationship with the principle actors-the players. ‘I was down with a serious injury and no one in the NFA thought it ideal to even say ‘how are you feeling’ it’s a terrible thing to remember players only when they are needed to play for the country’ ‘It is not encouraging and my fears are for the upcoming players who are watching things like this happen’ he added Aghahowa is almost four years through a five year contract with Shaktar Donetsk in the Ukraine but hope his terrific pace and clinical finishing has attracted the attention of many top European clubs. ‘I hope to do better with Shaktar in the next months left, so I can move when destined for me and the non availability of international distraction will only assist me in achieving this’ the decorated police officer opined. Notably, Aghahowa has consistently been Nigeria's top scorer in recent years. He shot to fame in front of a home crowd at the 2000 Nations Cup. He came on as a substitute to score two goals in ten minutes against Senegal to put Nigeria into the semi-finals when they were on the verge of being knocked out. He could not repeat such predatory performances in the just concluded Africa nations cup in Tunisia due to a wrist and knee injury copped in the group games against South Africa and Benin. 0
