OKOCHA IS NATIONS CUP BEST PLAYER

Jay Jay Okocha against South Africa
Super Eagles captain, Austin Okocha has emerged the most valuable player of the Nokia Nations Cup.

After a meeting of the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football, Okocha was
unanimously declared the player of the tournament.

CAF felt that Okocha had done enough to merit the award and duly named him the best player of the tournament which comes to an end on saturday with the final match between host Tunisia and Morocco.
He would be presented with the award during the presentation ceremony after the final game.

Okocha who will lead the Super Eagles to the third place match against the Eagles of Mali is already building a reputation for himself as a prelude to next year's African Footballer of the year award.

He is already tiped to be named as the footballer of the year for 2003 and the recent award as BBC footballer of the year will put him in good stead for another glorious back to back win as African Footballer of the year.

Okocha will not return to Nigeria with the rest of the team as he is expected to leave for England later
Saturday night.

It is a well deserved honour to whom it is due. I believe the award is not even enough to show appreciation for the beautiful style of football exhibited by Jay Jay. I am expecting him to clinch the African footballer of the year award.
