Nigeria girls in flying start

The Nigeria female U-17 team to the inaugural FIFA U -17 female world cup New Zealand 2008 got off to a great start with a 2-1 victory over South Korea.

The Flamingoes as the Nigerian side are called, scored a record early goal inside 20 seconds to take the lead in what turned out to be an evenly balanced game.

The second goal was added in the 60 th minute courtesy of a blunder by the Korean defence line but the Asian representatives grabbed an 85 th minute consolatory goal as the Nigerian team manged to hang on till the end of the match.

Nigeria is in the same group with South Korea, England and Brazil.

In the other group game, England overcame Brazil by 3-0.

Nigeria next play England on Tuesday.
