Globacom splashes N1.5m on SWAN seminar

Telecommunication giant, Globacom Nigeria Limited has boosted the Lagos State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) with N1.5million financial support towards hosting its forthcoming seminar on league billed to hold on July 29, 2008 at the new SWAN Secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos .

Speaking At a media briefing heralding the seminar which has the theme; Actualizing the potentials of the Nigeria Football League, Managing Director, O & I Limited, Isaac Igbinigie, whose company is partnering Lagos SWAN on the project, informed that the one-day seminar is expected to X-ray the workability of the league with the aim of exhuming its hidden potentials.

He said that three papers will be delivered by notable sports administrators and managers like Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, who is expected to deliver paper on ‘Strategy for effective club management, financing and merchandising’, while Barrister Dudu Orumeh will deliver paper on ‘Strategy for effective broadcast management of the league’ and President, National Association of Nigeria Footballer (NANF), Harisson Jala will do justice to the topic; Business, investment and marketing communication of the league.

Igbinigie also said at the briefing that the 5-man committee, charged with the responsibility of organizing the event is getting positive responses from other corporate partners like Zenith Bank, Skye Bank, Union Bank, adding that the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the Nigeria Football League (NFL) have thrown their weights behind the project.

Also in his address, Chairman, Lagos SWAN, Niyi Oyeleke explained that it became imperative for the association to contribute its quota to the development of the local league, hence its decision to organise the seminar.

He however, commended Globacom for its continuous support to the development of the local league, just as he called on the indigenous telecom company to also do more in partnering with Lagos SWAN in some of its numerous programmes targeted at moving sports forward in Nigeria.

Chairman of the organizing committee, Jemega said that the seminar is open to all club managers, coaches, players, team managers and referees and sports writers, declaring their there are great potentials in the Nigeria league, if properly organised. Other members of the committee include Emeka Nwani, Fred Edoreh, Monica Ikeakam and Wale Quadri, as secretary.
