Wheelchair picks 20 for close camping
The 20 players who will proceed to the close camping exercise billed to commence in the first week of September this year will be decided Saturday after a week long rigorous screening exercise embarked upon by the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Association.
The open trial which began on Monday at the open court of the National Institute for Sports, NIS would be rounded up Saturday with the list of the 20 lucky player made public by the coaches led by O’Brien Adoki. The screening which was bank-rolled by First Deepwater Discovery Limited is to produce the twenty players who will fight for a place in the twelve players list that will represent Nigeria at the Africa qualifiers billed for Johannesburg, South Africa between September 25 and October 5 this year. The Africa qualifications is meant to produce the continent’s sole representative at the 2009 World U23 Wheelchair Basketball Championship holding in France. According to the Coordinator of the screening exercise, Adoki, who says over fifty players are attending the exercise from different part of the country. The NIS senior lecturer thanked First Deepwater Discovery Limited especially its Managing Director, Babatunde Babalola for coming to the aid of the body. He, however, called on other corporate bodies to assist the players so that they could give their best at the Africa championship.
