Royal Hoopers hold 50-Man Camp
Followers of the game of basketball will soon have a lot to cheer as the Royal Hoopers basketball club of Port Harcourt, Rivers State South South Nigeria has set out to take the game to a different level as it has concluded plans to host its first camp in the oil rich city later this month. The camp which will run from July 27th – 30th, 2008 and aptly titled the Royal Hoopers Elite Basketball Camp is supported by the Global
Sports Advantage - a basketball foundation from the United States of America and run by Coach Alex Nwaora, head coach of Eric
Community College, Buffalo, New York.
According to the organizers the amp is aimed at giving Nigerian players an opportunity to improve their skills in the game as well as helps
develop the players in country and to help compare the talent level of players in south south part of the country against players from other
parts of Nigeria.
No less than 15 players are drawn from the Port Harcourt axis for this camp that promises to have the best hands in the game while 35
others are selected from different clubsides across the country.
The camp will be a mixture of all categories of players-both young and the experienced drawn from around the country.
The camp will be staged at the Police Officers mess basketball court on Olumi Street, Old GRA will see all players and officials invited are to
be accommodated and feed by the organizers.
Players and officials are therefore requested to report to the venue on arrival for necessary briefing.
The Royal Hoopers basketball camp will also have in attendance top basketball coaches and scouts who have identified Nigeria as a breeding
ground for top level basketball.
In fact the exploits of the great Hakeem Olajuwon and many other Nigerian players that have played in the prestigious American NBA are
sweet tales that have remained heart warming to the Americans.
With the level of competition at last year’s Royal Hoopers basketball championship, players are already looking forward to having a fun filled
camping exercise that will add to the their knowledge of the game.
