Pro League Committee Meet Club Owners

The National (Professional) League interim management committee met with clubs in that category in Abuja on Thursday to familiarize as well as look into the proposed statutes of operation and the proposed calendar for the next football season.

At the ceremony which held at Ibro Hotel in the Federal Capital, Chairman of the committee, Dr Shehu Adamu stated that the lack of sponsorship for the professional league cadre is a big worry and that this will soon be a thing of the past.

“I want to assure you that the committee is on the verge of securing a sponsor for the 2008/2009 season. This, we believe, will go a long way in assisting in the area of settlement of match indemnities, hotel accommodation and by extension other benefits in the interest of the League”, said Adamu, who is also a Member of the NFA Executive Committee.

At the meeting were other Members of the interim management committee: Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, Nuhu Tanko, Audu Attah, Richard Jideaka, E. C. Chukwuemeka and scribe Ayo Abdulrahman.

Clubs represented include OUK, Crown FC, Rivers United, Mighty Jets, Makwada FC, Adamawa United, Plateau United, Julius Berger FC, Anambra United, Paulson, FC Abuja, Court of Appeal FC, Keffi United, Babanawa FC, VON FC, Bussdor United, El-Kanemi FC and Dolphin FC.

It would be recalled that at the Annual General Meeting of Nigeria football which took place in Ibadan, Oyo State in August last year, it was decided that the Professional League should be independent of the Premier League.
