MTN LSSC: Rio bags chieftaincy title in Lagos

Manchester United Football Club of England Skipper, Rio Ferdinand has been bestowed with the chieftaincy title of Fiwagbola of Lagos by His Royal Highness, Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

The England defence ace received the blessing of the Oba of Lagos during a courtesy visit to the monarch’s Palace at Iga Iduganran, Lagos on his ( Rio ) arrival in the country last Friday.

Ferdinand had on arrival also visited the Motherless Babies Home, Lekki, addressed a World Press and enjoyed a ‘Party Time with Rio’ organized in his honour featuring Street Soccer theme song composer, Micky Dread, World Dancing Queen, Kaffy, Tony Tetuila, D’Banj and 2Face Idibia.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand selected side defeated Governor Fashola-led team 4-0 in a novelty 5-a-side football match played at the Astro Turf 2000, Ikoyi Lagos on Saturday before his departure.

The ceremonial match, signaled the official kick-off of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Champions attracted top class sports administrators, government officials, diplomats, local and international media practitioners, lots of school children and soccer fans.

Ferdinand sealed victory for his side with the fourth goal after beating Governor Fashola near the penalty area. Both governor Fashola and Ferdinand displayed superb skills in their unusual roles as attacker and defender respectively.

The England star immediately left for England aboard a private jet due to exigency that forced a change in the soccer star’s travel plans on Saturday.

He left behind his Manager, Chris Nathaniel of NVA Management, who represented him and present his goodwill message at Sunday’s exhibition games involving four top Street Soccer teams.
