Only Agbonlahor, Ronaldo can decide future – Rio

The much talked about movement of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United Football Club to Spanish giant, Real Madrid Football Club and whether Aston Villa prodigy, Nigerian-born Gabriel Agbonlahor should play for England national team or the Supper Eagles of Nigeria has been described as a personal decision by both players.

Speaking at a World Media Parley Friday in Lagos, Manchester United and England defender, Rio Ferdinand says only the duo has a final say on what mode their future should take.

Ferdinand who was treated to a personal breakfast with the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola a die-hard Man-U fan believed both Ronaldo and Agbonlahor knows exactly what is good for them and that nobody can make a categorical statement on what they should do with their career.

On the chances of Nigeria-born Agbonlahor playing for the Three Lions of England, Ferdinand has this to say – “I believe Agbolahor has weigh the options of whether to play for England or for Nigeria, but one thing is certain, it is only the player who decide what country he want to play for.

And on Ronaldo whom he described as a fantastic player, that decision like that is better left for the player and as for him (Ferdinand),he has just commit his future to the Red Devils as Man-U is known for another five years.

The Peckam, England-born defender says he has tremendous respect for Nigerian players.

“I have been following Nigerian players right from the days of Rasheed Yekini who is one of the greatest player I’ve ever known to Sunday Oliseh whom he describe as his kind of player.

“I have always known that Yakubu Aiyegbeni will be a great player from his days at Macabi Haifa of Israel to Everton.

He described Nigeria as a great country whom the Western media have tried over the years to paint in bad light.

“It is a different setting since I arrived here quite different from what we read about Nigeria, especially by the media abroad, I think Nigeria is a great country and its people warming.
