Amodu’s 'appointment' a joke - Pinnick

Chairman of Delta State Football Association, Amaju Pinnick has describe the purported appointment of Shuaibu Amodu as the new coach of the Super Eagles as a huge joke that will set Nigerian football back.

The local press has been agog with speculations on the appointment of Amodu as the country’s new head coach but Pinnick has dismissed this as a big mistake should it be true.

“I really want to believe that this appointment of Amodu is not true because it will be a big mistake for him to return to the national team, his best in his first time as the national team head coach was only third place at the Mali 2002 Nations Cup,” blasted Pinnick.

“This is a man who failed woefully at Sharks and now some people who think only of their own selfish interests and not the country are pushing for his return.”

“Amodu is now an agent and not a coach. He will come back to the team to select players he will sell to oversea teams."

The dynamic Delta FA boss continued: “If the NFA insist on picking a local man for the top job that person will be no other person than Samson Siasia, who has done wonderfully well in the past four years. Siasia has been consistent with his achievements and he has given football-loving Nigerians hope.”

Pinnick said football remains the unifying factor in Nigeria and the NFA should therefore not toy with the sport.

“Football is the only thing that unites this country and we will not accept any apologies if some people now want to derail our only happiness and joy,” he further stated.

“I am very open to a public debate on the issue of a coach for the national team.”
