Nigeria Gets 30 SLOTS For Pune

The organizing committee of the Commonwealth Youth Games have confirmed that Nigeria shall be entitled to 30 slots when the event opens in Pune, India, later in the year.

This confirmation was contained in a media release by the Nigeria Olympic Committee recently.

According to the PRO of the NOC, Tony Nezianya, “this means that the country will be represented by a contingent of 30 (sportsmen) at the Games.”

 The Games which will feature five sports disciplines including, Athletics, Table Tennis and weightlifting have been scheduled for between Oct 12 and 18, 2008.

The Youth Games are to feature athletes between the ages of 18 and under.

``It is a developmental event, designed as a prelude to the main Commonwealth Games.”
