Nomvete's double lifts Bafana

Two well taken strikes by Udinese of Italy striker, Siyabonga Nomvete gave South Africa a 2-0 over minnows, Benin 2-0.

It was a game Benin could have taken in the first half as they had the play but lost all of their chances.

Nomvete had been the "Mr. Miss it" of the first half throwing away clear chances in the 30th and 37th minute and even going ahead to boot wide a penalty just before the break but he seemed to come into the second half with a change in fortunes.

His first goal came in the 58th minute when he headed home a John Moshoeu free kick and 19 minutes later he connected a long pass from  the midfield and after a wonderful first touch he shot beyond  the reach of Rachad Chitou in goal for Benin.

South Africa, a side in almost total disarray before the Nations Cup kicked off were against all odds, off to a perfect start.

The Bafana Bafana  now top the group ahead of her second group game against Nigeria on the 31st of January.
