Gimba, Globacom commend Fasuba, Peter

Nigeria telecommunications giant Globacom Limited has showered encomium on the feat achieved last weekend by the duo of Olusoji Fasuba and Samuel Okon Peter for doing the Nation proud at international events.

Fasuba won the 60 metres gold at the just concluded World Athletics Indoor Championships held in Valecia, Spain last Friday while Peter becames the new World Heavyweight boxer after defeating Russia‘s Oleg Maskaev via a technical knockout in the sixth round last Sunday.

Globacom Executive Director, Marketing Communications, Okon Iyanam, said that the telecommunications company had been encouraged to continue its campaign of empowering Nigerians to give their best in sports.

He said, “Globacom believes that Nigerian professionals in sports, arts, business and education are among the best in the world.

“The capacity of the Nigerian to excel is limitless and even in the face of challenges, Nigerians have continued to rule their professions and Globacom as a company with a passion to empower Nigerians will continue to support every stride towards self fulfilment and national accomplishment.”

Drawing similarities between the accomplishment of the sportsmen and the Globacom brand, Iyanam said, “In the speed of Fasuba, you find in Globacom, a network quality that guarantees speed of call completion and service delivery.”

In the same Nigeria Sports & Social Development and Chairman National Sports Commission, Abdulraham Gimba, has described last Sunday as one of the best for Nigerian sports since he assumed office about eight months ago.

Gimba said this in his congratulatory messages to the newly crowned World Boxing Wouncil, WBC, heavyweight champion, Samuel Peter, and the 60m winner of the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF World Indoor Championships by Nigeria Sprint sensation and Africa King of the track, Olusoji Fasuba.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Tony Ohaeri, Monday, the NSC boss hailed the fighting spirit exhibited by Peter just as Fasuba became the World Indoor 60m Champion with a time of 6.51 seconds.

Peter defeated Russian Oleg Maskaev in Cancun, Mexico on Sunday morning to win the WBC heavyweight title while Fasuba won gold medal at the 12th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain on Friday.

Gimba, who congratulated the two world champions and Nigerians for the feats, said that he had no doubt in his mind that given the dogged fighting spirit for which Nigerians are known for, the two athletes would reign for long in their events.
