Boxing:Nigerian Egberime Retains Aussie Title![]() The champion was in control of the bout in all rounds contested. Egberime, who fought for Nigeria at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, showed from first sound of the bell that he meant business as he sent home boy COMER to the ropes with left right combination.COMER was rocked in the early rounds of the fight. The Rivers state born Egberime was defending the title he won in early 2003 for the third time. On December 5 in Campbell town NSW Australia, Egberime made nonsense of Sam Setu, knocking him out in round one for his second defence. He prepared well enough for the third defence by dealing with WBA super middleweight champion ANTHONY MUNDINE in a sparring bout, he even drew a smear of blood from the champion's nose. Egberime, known as the 'Africa king' in Australia turned professional immediately after the Sydney Olympics having stayed back in Sydney. The victory over COMER on 20 February brings his record to 12-1 (Twelve wins and one loss). He said after the fight that his aim is to become the world champion "all I am doing right now is to position my self for a shot at the world title" he said. "Since I did not win the gold at the Olympics, my dream will be to become the world welterweight champion" he added. Cory Spinks currently holds the WBA, WBC and IBF world titles while Antonio Margarito is the WBO titlist. Report: Ralph Dozie 0
