Welcome the world young athletes relays

The world Welcome the World Young Athlete Relays kick off the action packed International Amateau Athletic Federation, IAAF World Cross Country weekend in Edinburgh.

Following the Adopt-a-Nation activity which will culminate in schools visiting the Athletes Village on the morning of Saturday 29th, international teams will have the opportunity to return their support by encouraging the cross country stars of the future in the Welcome the World Young Athlete Relays in Holyrood Park - a road, multi-terrain and cross country event for under-11s (each lap approximately 1500m) and under-13s (each lap approximately 1800m) - en route to inspecting the World Championship course.

The relays which will take place from 10.45 - 12.45am on Saturday 29th March which will officially kick off the weekend of athletics action in Holyrood Park, ahead of the 36th IAAF World Cross Country Championships, the showpiece event on Sunday 30th.

Prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team in each race and overall team, in addition to spot prizes for the best 'Adopt a Nation' fancy dress and best supported team in each race.

The closing date for entries is Saturday 15th March.
